The University of Melbourne is leading a longitudinal evaluation of family violence behaviour change programs (FVBCPs) across Victoria. This long-term evaluation was commissioned by the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) as a priority area. The evaluation aims to inform future investments and help ensure that family violence behaviour change interventions are evidence-based, effective and delivered to the right people at the right time.
Previous evaluations of FVBCPs have largely focussed on single sites and program processes. Few have been designed with a robust methodology to evaluate whether programs have a long-term effect on reducing family violence and increasing victim/survivor safety. This evaluation seeks to address this significant gap in knowledge, with a view to measure change 6-12 months after program delivery.
This evaluation focuses on three main topics:
By systematically addressing these subjects, this research will provide a robust understanding of the role and effectiveness of Victorian FVBCPs in promoting behaviour change among participants and improving the safety of their current or former partners.
The primary aim of the evaluation is to understand which programs work for which participants.
What will I be asked to do?
The research team would like to have a conversation with you about your experience in the program. They may ask to speak with you more than once. It will be up to you how much you want to be involved.
Will my partner know that I am participating?
No – no other than the research team, no one else will know who is involved.
Will I be paid?
There will be a gift card available for participating.
How will it be done?
The interviews can be done over the phone, over the internet, or in person, it will be up to you.
How long will the interviews take?
Between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on how much information you want to share.
Will my data be kept private and protected?
Yes, the University will store everything on protected servers. They can provide more information about it when you talk with them.
Will my program participation be affected?
No. Involvement in the evaluation will not affect your involvement in the program. We will not know who is taking part in the evaluation and who is not.
